MonoTouch : System.MissingMethodException

I’m trying to learn how to build a Windows version of my app on Mac using the MonoTouch Framework.
So I’ve started a new Mac OS X 10.7 Lion OS project and created a few screens, then I tested it on the simulator and it worked fine.
After that I created a new Windows 8 project in XAML and tried to make an iPad version, but I got:
System.MissingMethodException
in the AppDelegate class there’s a method – (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions and I don’t know how to handle this exception.
Can anyone give me a clue about how to handle this exception?

The “normal” answer to that exception message is that the method you’re referencing isn’t actually missing, it’s right there but it’s a private method.
Private methods have special compiler rules (among other things, no runtime checks). To get access to them, you need to pass the -[UIApplication application:] method to the compiler as a compiler directive:
[DllImport(“__Internal”)]
private static extern IntPtr application;

//… elsewhere in the file
var app = (UIApplication)application;

This tells the compiler to treat the method as a compilation-time directive, instead of as a method to call at runtime. The compiler turns it into a static call to a “hidden” (internal) assembly method, which is then called when you try to call the method. So it knows to look for the method in your.dll, which is what you want.
This might not be exactly the right answer, but it’s the answer that people who read it on SO will think is the “correct” answer.
