Quartz 2D and visibleAtlasSize:UIImageView:image:

I’m working on a game and I would like to animate some textures. For this, I would like to use some kind of sprite animation.
For this I thought Quartz 2D could help me out.
After some research I found out that you could use the method:
[UIImageView:image:]. This takes a UIImageView as parameter and you can animate the image by calling the animation methods.
My Problem now is, that I’m using visibleAtlasSize:UIImageView:image: to allow me to scale my images down to a certain size.
If I call the method [UIImageView:image:], it’s not scaling down the image.
How can I combine the two methods?
If there is a better way of doing this, please tell me.
